radiohoax recommends: The Fringe at Tramlines '25
I did promise Tramlines Fringe recommendations so... here we go. I'm gonna stick with bands you can catch for free, as this weekend is the perfect opportunity to take a chance on something you'd maybe not normally watch. You can still support venues and artists by buying drinks, music, merch, or by paying to see them again sometime.
Dearthworms - Might as well start with the obvious. If you've been to a gig in Sheffield you've already seen them, they play every one it seems. Pixies-spiked art-punk chaos that sounds like it's hanging together by a thread, but always somehow balances out.
Playing: Free at 19:00 on Friday as part of Jarred Up's takeover of Sidney & Matilda that day, but naturally they're also playing sets at CADS, Delicious Clam and Gut Level across the weekend.
Shelley Byron - Charming and often relatable lyrical stories of love and life, cloaked in whimsical, gently psychedelic indie.
Playing: 16:00 Saturday at Shakespeares, also for Jarred Up.
The Big Hell - Not as intimidating as the name suggests, but pretty raucous notheless. Still enough other influences in there to make them not a metal band.
Playing: 20:40 Saturday at Yellow Arch
Airport Dad - Sweeping, hazy guitar pop with darker undertones. This is one I've not seen live yet and they only have a few tracks online, but those show enough promise to be worth finding out more.
Playing: 15:00 Saturday at Shakespeares
FloodHounds - Because sometimes, no-frills rock songs you can dance to are all you need for a good time.
Playing: 20:30 Friday at the Hallamshire Hotel
More recommendations to follow in the next few days and if you wanna know more of what's happening across the weekend, the full preview can be found here.
