Playlist: radiohoax recommends - Update

New year, new streaming platform... I've been wanting to leave Spotify for a while but the question was where to move to. I'm still not certain there is a right choice, maybe it'll become fragmented like social media, where you have to be on every app to keep up with everyone. In time, shared playlists might become as redundant as the mixtapes which preceded them, kept alive only as a niche novelty.

However. A decision had to be made from the options at hand, and after exhaustive tests and much deliberation, I'm now on Tidal. It's far from perfect and sadly not the best paying for artists; but balancing ethics, catalogue and funtionality it was the only option that somewhat suited my requirements.

I haven't copied all of the old playlist across, but have added this year's relevant releases to the new one so it's up to an hour already. Rules are the same as ever - songs go on within a week of release at the top of the list, and when it gets to about 3 hours a bunch of the oldest are removed to keep it manageable. You can listen on the embedded player at the end of this post, some tracks play in full and some 30-second clips, that's out of my control. If you're on Tidal, please click on the playlist and give it a follow/heart/add or whatever terminology we're using.

Of course, it's important as ever to remember that while streaming is a wonderful tool for discovering new releases and artists, buying music is crucial to directly supporting those who create it.
